Frosty Fires: Staying Toasty and Safe this Winter

Recently, Glenhaven Rural Fire Brigade has been actively engaged in the local community, honing our skills through intensive training exercises.

Our latest session, held at Living Choice Glenhaven, featured simulations of structure fires. These drills encompassed evacuations, effective communications, first aid protocols, and public liaison efforts.

By prioritizing thorough training, we ensure that our members, leaders, and community are well-prepared for any emergency situation.

Winter is now in full swing, and it’s the perfect time to ensure your home and surroundings are fire-safe during these cooler months. Every year there are more than 1,100 home fires across NSW, which is definitely a statistic you don’t want to be a part of!

Frosty Fires: Your Winter Lifesaver

To safeguard yourself, loved ones and pets against fires:
– Check your smoke alarms are in proper working order. If not, replace the batteries or replace the alarm.

– Make sure fireplaces and chimneys are clean, barricaded by a gate and that no matches, lighters or fire starters are left haphazardly around.

– Ensure that heaters are kept at least 1 metre away from anything else, and that they are turned off when not in use.

– Have a detailed escape plan ready for if the worst does happen and make sure everyone knows and understands what to do in the event of a fire.
