Community Service Award
It was my great privilege to award a wonderful local community group with a Community Service Award for 2022. Proudly Arcadian is a fantastic local group that has been giving back to the community for many years, making Arcadia the wonderful place that it is today. They are well known for their friendly faces and their purple t-shirts, and are behind anything and everything in Arcadia and 2159. They are a passionate and committed voice for their community who always strive to keep their community connected. Over lockdown, they kept everyone in fine spirits by introducing the ‘Festival of the Scarecrow’, a tradition I hope will stay. I would like to extend my sincere congratulations and thanks to Proudly Arcadian for everything they do for our community.
New technology to fight bushfires
I was very pleased to hear that as a result of a $5.4 million investment, new, state-of-the-art laser technology has been added to Fire and Rescue NSW’s fleet of drones, giving firefighters the ability to identify bushfire threats more accurately. During a hazard reduction operation, the laser imagery collected before and after the burn will allow firefighters to accurately determine how much bushland has been treated. I know that our community is surrounded by bushland which is why it is so important we have the best technology to help firefighters map bushlands they need to burn and concentrate their efforts on the areas with the highest fuel loads. This capability boost will ensure our communities are kept safer and stronger with the risk of fires only increasing as the summer rolls on.
