FREE digital skills training is the big news for Hills business owners this month, and it comes with a few extras worth knowing about. The Hills Shire Council has joined the Australian Government’s Digital Solutions Program as a partner, opening up government-funded training, mentoring and tools to small and micro-businesses across the Shire.
First, here’s who is running the show. The Australian School of Employment delivers the program, offering online workshops, webinars and other resources.
Owners can dip into digital marketing and social media, work on their website and online presence, explore AI and digital tools, learn about cyber security, look at business systems and automation, and pick up ideas for productivity and operational efficiency. The aim is to help businesses become more productive, more competitive and better placed to grow.
The second thing is the Hills Digital Learning Hub, which comes with the partnership. It includes a collection of short, on-demand video tutorials and step-by-step implementation checklists, so owners can learn at their own pace and act quickly. Topics include improving websites, strengthening online visibility, automating repetitive tasks, enhancing cyber security and using AI more effectively.
The third is the mentoring. Anyone wanting personalised advice can book up to five hours of one-on-one support. The mentoring is valued at $1,995, though local business owners can access it for a discounted rate of $110.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, said the partnership reflects Council’s commitment to supporting the Hills Shire’s business community in a rapidly changing digital landscape.
“The Hills is home to more than 27,000 businesses, and almost 98 per cent are small businesses,” Mayor Byrne said.
“Digital technology and AI are transforming the way businesses operate, market themselves and connect with customers.
“This program gives local business owners access to affordable expert advice to help them build confidence, save time, improve efficiency and identify new opportunities for growth.
“Whether you’re looking to strengthen your online presence, improve your marketing, streamline operations or better understand AI, this program provides practical support that can make a real difference.”
