History Cottage, beside the Cenotaph in Hayes Park, is now open on the fourth Sunday of each month, between 1.00 and 4.00pm. Members are on duty to assist with enquiries from the those wishing to study any historical matter, especially local and family history.
News From History Cottage The regular opening has also given time to archive the extensive amount of material generously donated over recent years; treasures have been found. If readers have photographs and papers of a local nature, or have knowledge that may assist in the identification of what is being archived, the Society suggests they make contact.
On the 14th June the guest speaker will be Rod Best, retired lawyer and a descendant George Best. He will outline the significance of the Bigge Commission and of George Best’s evidence; touching on this fascinating aspect of our area’s early European settlement during the administration of Gov. Macquarie.
