Get Ready Weekend – Bunnings BBQ
The annual Rural Fire Service Get Ready Weekend is coming up on the weekend of the 17th and 18th of September! This is a weekend where we encourage everyone to prepare themselves and their property for the upcoming fire season. This includes putting together a bushfire survival plan, preparing your property and increasing awareness of fire safety.
As part of get ready weekend, Dural will be holding a Bunnings BBQ at Dural Bunnings on Sunday the 18th of September. We will have firefighters on hand to make you a snag and talk about preparing for the fire season. We will even have the truck there for the kids to look at. So, whether you just want a snag, or want to chat to our members, feel free to pop by and say hi.
School visit Last month Dural celebrated the first time we could return to school visits since Covid started. Six members from Dural took our truck down to Pacific Hills Christian School to visit the kids. There, they talked about what it’s like to be a firefighter, the equipment we use and some basic fire safety. From all account the kids (and the fire fighters) all had a great time.
Thank you to Pacific Hills for inviting us to come and visit! District exercise Every year Dural participates in the annual Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai district exercise and navigation event. This event in an opportunity for brigades across our district to ‘compete’ against each other in various training scenarios. In the morning session, our crew completed a navigation course in Berowra Valley National Park. After a slight crew change, the team then moved onto a series of scenarios that aimed to simulate a series of real life incidents including motor vehicle accidents, bushfires and structure fires.
Dural proudly tied first at the navigation course and came in second overall for the entire day! Great work to the teams who participated. These types of events are always a great chance to refine our skills and partake in some friendly competition with other brigades.
