Dural Art Studio Celebrates 30th Years

As Dural Art Studio celebrates its 30th anniversary, we reflect on Maree’s artistic journey. Her passion for art began in childhood, where she excelled in drawing and design, encouraged by supportive teachers.

A pivotal moment came in primary school when a teacher framed her painting, fueling her dedication. Throughout high school, she thrived under inspiring art teachers, notably her Year 12 teacher who influenced her to pursue art education. Recognized for her major works, she was accepted into the prestigious B.Ed Art Course at Alexander Mackie CAE.

Maree taught high school art for several years before taking a break to focus on family. During this time, she remained active in the art community, running playgroup activities and assisting at her children’s school.

Drawing on prior experience developing holiday art classes, she launched her own studio in 1995 in a warehouse unit, sharing space with her husband, Steve.

The studio also allowed her to sell art supplies, complementing her classes and providing work-life balance. Maree’s inspiration stems from the world around her – nature, sculpture, architecture, and even negative spaces.

She overcomes creative blocks by staying positive and exploring new techniques. Teaching itself is a source of motivation; she draws on the works of masters and the daily wonders of nature. In 30 years, her enthusiasm for her work has rarely wavered.
