Fish markets, a famous yacht race, and a warm welcome for newcomers: it’s been a full month for Round Corner Dural Probus Club.
The standout outing was a bus trip to the new Sydney Fish Markets at Glebe, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Members made the most of a clear, sunny day, browsing the stalls and, in several cases, packing esky bags and cooler bags to bring the day’s seafood home for dinner.
The general consensus afterwards was that the lunch alone made the trip worthwhile, and that it’s an outing anyone in the club should try at least once.
Indoors, the June meeting brought the club’s own slice of sporting history to life. Guest speaker Noel Phelan, from the National Maritime Museum, returned for another visit, this time presenting on Australia’s win in the 1983 America’s Cup, still regarded as one of the great highlights of the country’s sporting past. His presentation combined solid research with striking visuals, the kind that make a well-known story feel new again.
The month also brought three new faces through the door, visitors curious about what a Probus club actually involves. They found a group that meets regularly on the second Monday of each month at The Galston Club at 9:30am and has no shortage of outings and speakers lined up.
