Library Laggards donate to Charity

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi has continued a generous holiday tradition with the announcement of his 2023 Library Fine Amnesty, waiving fines for late books from Hills Shire libraries in exchange for non-perishable food items, until 17 December 2023.

Anglicare’s Mobile Community Pantry will distribute the donated food to individuals and families experiencing hard times.

Mayor Gangemi recognised the need to help those who are less fortunate this Christmas.

In addition to sharing goodwill at Christmas, the amnesty offers library members the perfect opportunity to return any long-overdue books to the shelves of the four Hills Shire Library branches.

Mayor of The Hills Shire Dr Peter Gangemi launches his 2023 Library Fine Amnesty and Christmas Appeal.

Last year, the Library Fine Amnesty and Mayor’s Christmas Appeal was a resounding success, with 1483 items donated and 217 overdue items returned to the libraries.

And you don’t need to have overdue library books to contribute! All donations are welcome.

Acceptable non-perishable food item donations include:

  • Christmas cake or pudding
  • Tinned ham or chunky soup
  • Tinned salmon or tuna
  • Tea & coffee
  • Crackers & biscuits (not chocolate)
  • Dried pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Long-life milk
  • Long-life custard
  • Tinned fruit and vegetables
  • Jams & spreads
  • PLEASE NO CHOCOLATE bars or biscuits, as they melt.

Donate at your local Hills Shire library branch at Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill, Dural or Rouse Hill, before 17 December 2023.
