West Pennant Hills-Cherrybrook Lions Club Helps Save Lives

Since its formation in 1964 the West Pennant Hills-Cherrybrook Lions Club has raised over $2 million to support our community. The Inala School has been supported since day one. Over $260,000 has been raised for child cancer patients.

Our members helped the Red Cross Blood Bank for 47 years. Lions built motel-style accommodation at Hornsby Hospital in the early 1980s to assist country parents to stay on-site during their children’s treatments. Known as ‘Lions Lodge’ it is still an important facility today.

Councillor Donald Moore was the founding Father and the Charter President of West Pennant Hills Lions club and also a Councillor on the Baulkham Hills Shire Council for 22 years. His community interest and work spanned over 40 years and today’s Hills communities are still benefiting from his tireless energies and initiatives.

To commemorate the Club’s milestone 60th anniversary this year, we are focusing on important projects that help save lives such as supporting important child cancer research at the Westmead Children’s Hospital’s world-class laboratory, helping to assist domestic violence victims through the Lisa Harnum Foundation at Castle Hill, and installing some defibrillators in the Club’s local area.

The photo depicts our President, Philip Watson and Secretary, Brian Daniels donating a defib unit to the West Pennant Hills Sports Club for placement in their Tennis Centre on New Line Road. The Sports Club’s Operation Manager, Dan Connell, expressed his appreciation to the Lions Club.

The Club’s members are still very active in supporting local youth through the Youth of The Year National Quest, continuous for the past 52 years, School Citizenship awards and recognition of young students in many fields of endeavour. West Pennant Hills Lions have run hundreds of appeals for fires, floods, cyclones and other disasters both in Australia and internationally.

Today, the Club’s members continue to uphold and build upon the objects and faithful ambitions of its founders 60 years ago. Lions International continues to be the largest service organisation in the world and our members are proud volunteers who have a passion to aspire to The Lions motto “We Serve.”
