Hilarious Comedy Based On A True Story Castle Hill Players Presents GLORIOUS! at the Pavilion Theatre from 4th – 26th April, Written by Peter Quilter and directed by Meredith Jacobs
Based on a true story, this hilarious and heart-warming comedy tells the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the worst singer in the world.
Set in 1940s New York, the singer everyone wants to see is the enthusiastic (and slightly delusional) soprano dubbed “the first lady of the sliding scale”.
Glorious! follows Florence Jenkins as she warbles her way from charity recitals and extravagant balls, to bizarre recording sessions at the Melotone Studios and finally her triumphant performance at Carnegie Hall. All aided and abetted by a circle of devoted friends who are almost as eccentric as she is.
Join Florence and her friends for a delightful and blissfully funny play that generates a glow of warmth and lots of laughter.
Glorious! was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award – Best New Comedy (2005) and inspired the 2016 movie Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.
“Glorious! Is a rollicking good time at the theatre. Every character is colourful, the dialogue is witty and entertaining
and the singing so bad you’ll laugh so hard it hurts!
A highly entertaining night out.“
