Providing BBQ services for West Pennant Hills Public School’s 175th anniversary, members of the local Rotary club helped fuel the celebrations on 5 August, turning out more than 600 sausages for excited students and teachers. What could have been a logistical test became a lively morning of teamwork, laughter and community pride.
Just over a week later, the Club switched gears from tongs to trivia sheets, hosting its annual Trivia Night on 16 August at the Cherrybrook Community Centre. Known as one of the organisation’s major fundraising events, the evening once again delivered on entertainment and generosity. Returning quizmaster Robert Bredin kept the crowd energised with a sharp wit and a well-crafted set of questions.
Clubs from across the Zone turned out in strong numbers, helping raise funds for Escabags and other Rotary-supported charities. Escabags provides essential “Escape Bags” to people fleeing domestic and family violence—an initiative that continues to gain traction as demand for crisis support grows.
Beyond events, members maintain a steady program of hands-on community work, carrying out regular lawn mowing, line trimming and pruning at transitional houses in Kenthurst—an often-quiet contribution that makes a meaningful difference to residents rebuilding their lives.
Looking ahead, the Club is preparing for its next community fundraiser, with a BBQ and cake stall scheduled at Bunnings Castle Hill on Saturday 27 September. If recent events are anything to go by, the tongs will be sizzling, the cakes will sell fast, and the community spirit will be stronger than ever.
