Celebrate Australia Day at Fagan Park with Cultural Performances and Summer Activities

Families across the Hornsby Shire are set for a lively and laid-back Australia Day as Fagan Park gears up for a community celebration filled with music, food and summer fun. On 26 January, the popular Galston Park will transform into a festive hub from 10.30 am, offering an easygoing day out for locals of all ages.

Guests are encouraged to roll out a picnic blanket and settle in for a complete program of live entertainment, featuring homegrown talent, cultural performances and crowd-pleasing bands. Children will have no trouble burning off energy, with water-based activities, including a slip ’n’ slide, dunk tank, and bubble machines, providing a welcome escape from the summer heat. Roving performers will enhance the relaxed, carnival-style atmosphere, while a selection of food trucks will serve everything from family favourites to global flavours.

The stage program begins with a Citizenship Ceremony at 10.30 am, followed by Gawura Cultural Immersions, a First Nations dance company renowned for its powerful performances. Local favourites The Funky Monkeys will bring their blend of upbeat classics at 12.15 pm, before the Lily Guerrero Band closes the afternoon with vibrant Latin rhythms from 1.15 pm.

Alongside the entertainment, visitors will have the chance to explore Fagan Park’s heritage precinct. The Friends of Fagan Park will open Netherby Homestead, featuring vintage vehicles, blacksmithing demonstrations, and the park’s lovingly maintained gardens. Traditional country treats—including a community barbecue, lamingtons and homemade jams—will give the day a nostalgic edge.

Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell says the event is an opportunity for the community to come together in a spirit of respect and celebration. “We’re proud of the great diversity of cultures and backgrounds that call Hornsby Shire home, and this Australia Day is a chance to enjoy great music, food and family fun while connecting with local heritage,” he said.

The celebration, supported by the National Australia Day Council, runs from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm. Parking is available on site for $7, and a free shuttle bus will operate from Hornsby Station. Visitors planning to enjoy the water activities are advised to bring swimsuits or clothes they don’t mind getting wet. For event details, head to Hornsby Shire Council’s website.
