Artist Talk: Ruth Downes | Barely Wearable

Join Hawkesbury Regional Gallery on Sunday, 9 March, for an insightful talk from artist Ruth Downes on her current exhibition Barely Wearable.

Addressing the issues of waste and overconsumption, Barely Wearable is an exhibition showcasing 30 wearable art pieces crafted from common materials.

Single-use objects such as coffee pods, rubber bands, and surgical masks that would have otherwise been discarded in a landfill have been transformed into beautiful neckpieces, headwear and clothing.

Hawkesbury Regional Gallery marks the last stop in the exhibition’s extensive five-year tour, which has included 14 galleries across NSW, Queensland, and Victoria. This talk offers a rare chance to hear directly from the artist about these works.

Barely Wearable is showing at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery until Sunday, 16 March. Hawkesbury Regional Gallery is located at the Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street, Windsor. Opening hours are Monday, Wednesday to Friday 10 AM – 4 PM, Saturday and Sunday 10 AM – 3 PM.
