Celebrating Local Talent: Congratulations to Steven Vardouniotis

Hills Grammar‘s Star Student Wins Art Prize

By Mark Hodges Member of Castle Hill

I’m delighted to share the success of Steven Vardouniotis, a talented Year 8 student at Hills Grammar School in Kenthurst, who was recently recognised in the Transurban Canal to Creek Prize 2024 competition.

This prestigious competition invites students from Years 7–10 to create original artworks around a central theme—in 2024, the theme was ‘Connections’.

Steven’s prize-winning piece, titled ‘My Papou & Bobby’, is a stunning ballpoint pen portrait of his grandfather, featuring a budgie named Bobby, who has been a beloved companion to Steven’s grandparents for many years. The artwork beautifully captures the bond between Steven’s grandfather and Bobby, who often follows him around the house.

Steven’s work was awarded first place in the Year 8 category—an incredible achievement! His artwork is now on display in my Castle Hill Electoral Office, and I encourage everyone to visit and see it for themselves.

Congratulations, Steven! We look forward to seeing where your artistic talents take you next.
