By Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor of the Hills Shire
The Hills is home to many remarkable people and community groups who dedicate their time to making our Shire a better place. From volunteers and sporting leaders to community organisations, these individuals and groups help strengthen our community and make a lasting difference to the lives of others.
Nominations are now open for the 2027 Australia Day Awards, providing residents with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate people who have made an outstanding contribution to The Hills over the past year. The awards acknowledge the achievements and commitment of local residents and groups whose efforts have helped enrich our community.
Nominations are open in the following categories:
• Citizen of the Year
• Young Citizen of the Year
• Environmental Citizen of the Year
• Sporting Citizen of the Year
• Community Group of the Year
To be eligible, nominees must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, reside within The Hills Shire Local Government Area and have made a positive contribution to the community over the past year.
I encourage all residents to take a moment to nominate someone who goes above and beyond for others. Recognising these local champions is an important way of celebrating the values that make The Hills such a connected community.
Finalists will be announced in the lead up to Australia Day 2027.
